San Diego Skyline, Twilight : The ever growing San Diego skyline, viewed here from Coronado California at twilight, displays a kaleidoscope of colors and hues, resulting from subtle, varying building colors, neon and other kinds of lights, and sunlight reflected from cloud formations. From Coronado, everything from the Navy's supply center and the aircraft carrier, USS Midway, on the far left to Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center on the far right, seem to be only an arm's reach away.

Sunset, Coronado Beach : In December, January and February, Pacific storms and cloud formations can create great sunsets in Coronado, and Coronado Beach is the place to be. Here are a few samples of what to expect -- if you are lucky. Cloud conditions must be just right, meaning that the ever-prevelant San Diego marine layer must stay well off shore and the cloud formations must not be too thick or continuous. Light, broken cloud covers produce the best color and the most interesting abstract shapes. Colors become most intense within a few minutes after the sun dips under the horizon.

San Diego - Coronado Bay Bridge : The San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge is as much a work of art as is Michelangelo's David or Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. The trick in appreciating the Bridge, unlike those Renaissance masterpieces, is in finding the most flattering location from which to view it. And unlike David and Mona Lisa, to fully appreciate the beauty of the Bridge, one must view it in the most flattering lighting condidiotns. In many ways the Bridge is like a fashion model. You might not look twice at her under "normal" or "street" condiditons. But add the right lighting, adornments of color and background, and the Bridge takes on breath-taking splendor. Here is a handful of images, all made after a passing rainstorm, that attempt to capture the Bridge's broad sweep and sometimes dramatic surroundings.

Glorietta Bay : Glorietta Bay is near the historic center of Coronado, California, and from its banks can be seen several historic landmarks. First, the Hotel Del Coronado rises in the background and its original, historic boathouse is positioned on the Bay's shore. The Hotel Del Coronado was built from 1887-1888 and the boathouse was built in 1887. Nearby is the Spreckels Mansion, now the Glorieta Bay Inn, once the home of Coronado mover and shaker, John D. Spreckels, of the sugar-manufacturing Spreckels.

This gallery contains images made from similar vantage points near Glorietta Bay, but at two different times of year. The first seven images were made in late June, 2006, and the remainder were made in mid-October, 2006.

Hotel Del Coronado and Beach : This collection of images of the Hotel Del Coronado photographed from Coronado Beach was made over a period of time. The first six images were made in early January 2006; the next three in late December 2003; the next two in early March 2005 and, the last two, also in early March 2005.

Coronado Beach and Clouds : Following a fast-moving February cold front that brought heavy rain for a brief period, wonderful clouds form over Coronado's Central Beach and gusty winds cause them to scud rapidly from Point Loma in the distance towards local mountains. The air is brisk and gusty and the beach is a delightful place for photography.

Hotel Del Coronado in Holiday Lights : Beginning in late November of the year, the Hotel Del Coronado displays its festive, holiday lighting. The lights remain on each night until New Year' s Day.
